When a Water Softening System Loses Power, What Happens Next? Water Conditioner, Treatment, and Softener companies in Austin, Tx

When a Water Softening System Loses Power, What Happens Next?

Almost every item in your Austin home, including your water softener system, runs on electricity. You could have an unplanned power outage during which all energy is put off. We all need clean water to drink, and tragedies might occur if we don’t have it. Consequently, it’s understandable to be anxious if the power goes out because you are unsure how the water softening system will behave.

What Happens To A Water Softening System In Case Of Power Outage?

A power loss will not impact your reverse osmosis system in most cases. The mechanism, on the other hand, may have trouble generating the softened water you’ve grown to expect. A pump is used to filter water in a reverse osmosis system. The reverse osmosis system’s pump and UV light both require electricity to function correctly. As a result, if there is a storm or your entire house loses electricity, the softening process is temporarily interrupted. You can still get water from a well, but you won’t like the filtered water that a water softening system provides.

A good water softening system will have several gallons of filtered water kept in reserve when the electricity goes off. The mechanism purifies the reserves’ stored water using an air pressure mechanism that does not require any energy to function. You may not have any running water if you have a water softening system with a water pressure function. Some water-softening systems leave the settings set for up to 24 hours after a power outage. All settings should remain when the power is out, even if the indicators are turned off.

If you have an old reliable or booster pump, disconnect it when the power is switched off to minimize power surges. These power surges might severely damage the electrical components of the system. Surge protectors are included with most high-quality designs, and they protect your system from power surges. If your system has no electrical components, though, you don’t need to worry about switching it off when the power goes off.

What Should You Do If A Power Outage Occurs?

Fill a couple of bottles with tank reserves while the power is down to ensure you have softened water. Many people, on the other hand, are impacted by power outages that are swiftly rectified. Even if no freshwater is going through the system, the reserve’s water should be okay if your electricity stays off for more than a day. When the power is restored, the tank pressure will return to normal, pushing any leftover water out of the tank and allowing the system to begin filtering as usual.

In conclusion

If you lose electricity you will usually have access to reserves that are safe to drink, depending on the kind of system you’ve got, but the water may not be filtered. Most water softening systems begin filtering water as soon as the power is returned, and you may need to reset a clock from time to time, but the system usually functions even when the power is out. If you have any questions about power outages, you may always contact the manufacturer or installer of your water softener.
